I’m a real food nut. You know this. I teach people what to look for when purchasing food, what ingredients to avoid. I’m enthusiastic about ditching food additives and isolates, and getting back to baseline with our diets.
I’m also big into natural skincare. I see this as an extension of my whole food living. What you put into your body matters; what you put onto your body matters.
Years ago, when I worked as a manager at a health food store, I started learning about body care and what a huge impact it can have on our health. I worked directly with different companies, familiarizing myself with which ingredients they avoided and why. I began using EWG’s Skin Deep database as a gauge for whether or not I bought and used products. I became extraordinarily particular about what skincare products I use and keep in my household. (For my baby shower invites, I even had my mom explicitly request that people do not bring bath or skin care items. Seriously. I’m that person.) Point being…I’ve been into this stuff for awhile, and while I didn’t always understand the importance of safe skincare ingredients, once I learned, there was no turning back.
I teach people that they must be their own health advocate when it comes to food. Because, unfortunately, the FDA doesn’t really have our backs when it comes to keeping hazardous material out of our food. We have to do that ourselves by remaining diligent. We have to constantly check packaging, read ingredient lists, understand what we’re putting in our mouths. (That’s why I’m always sharing brands of things I like on social media - to make your lives easier, and to keep spreading the good word about good food.)
The same is true for skincare. Our government doesn’t protect us from risky ingredients. That job falls on us. But most people don’t realize the situation.
The average American puts up to 20 products on their bodies every day. Soap, toothpaste, perfume, cologne, deodorant, make up, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, lip balm, shaving cream, pomade, body wash, eye cream, nail polish, hairspray…it adds up.
MANY of the ingredients in these products are hazardous and have been linked to:
- Developmental toxicity
- Hormone disruption
- Autoimmune disease
For the above reasons, there are over 1,300 cosmetic ingredients banned or restricted in Europe. In the United States? Eleven. Eleven ingredients. I’m not joking.
I often talk about health as a puzzle with lots of different pieces that fit together to make it up. Skincare is one of those pieces.
We can invest lots of money in organic produce and sustainable well-raised meat, but if we’re slathering on harmful substances every day, then our bodies are still being bombarded with stuff they shouldn’t be.
You could go the whole simplicity route and avoid it all together. I did this for awhile. I no-pooed, and skipped deodorant. I used coconut oil in place of everything. This was a far cry from my former perfume-collecting, Mac makeup-wearing, scented-lotion-junkie self. I eventually ended up somewhere in the middle. (Okay, fine. Not even close to the middle. Definitely on the crunchy hippie side of things. I still make my own deodorant, after all.)
Some of my readers are into the whole DIY thing. Some aren’t. I feel both sides. Because I like make up! I like nice shampoo! I just don't like it enough to sacfrifice my health for it. So I’m constantly on the hunt for products and companies that are not only safe, but also perform well. Because…#beyourownadvocate
But one company has stepped up to the plate and decided to advocate FOR ALL OF US.
Not only is Beautycounter producing high-performance cosmetics and body care products, they are also moving the needle on what is considered safe in this country. They are big scale. They call it the Counter Revolution. (And you know how much I love me a revolution.)
The last time Congress passed a law on cosmetics safety was in 1938. Beautycoutner wants to change this. Their mission is to get safe products into the hands of EVERYONE, while educating people about their choices.
I’ve been lurking on Beautycounter’s periphery for awhile, and really vibing with their message. I’m obsessed with their mission, and I think the founder & CEO is a big-hearted badass. When I finally pulled the trigger and ordered myself some product, I was immediately hooked. LOVE the stuff.
So I decided to throw my support behind their education mission.
I hope you know and trust me enough now to understand that I would NEVER (ever, ever) recommend something unless I whole heartedly believe in it. (Seriously, I’ve turned down several offers because they did not align with my beliefs or standards.)
I aim to empower people through education. It’s what I do with my clients, it’s what I do at workshops, it’s what I do in my Fueled+Fit groups, it’s what I’ve always done, and will always do. Through Erin Holt Health, I will continue to bring you current information about what you are putting INTO and ONTO your bodies, what effects this has on your health, and what you can do about it.
How you can get involved:
Join My Team
As a stay at home mom, business owner and yoga teacher, I have a lot of balls in the air. Throwing up one more ball by becoming a Beautycounter consultant may seem sort of nutty. And maybe I am a nut, but I was so called to join this movement, that I just had to do it. I love using the products, supporting the mission, but I also really love the community of women and mentors that I am now a part of. My jobs can sometimes leave me feeling isolated (I'm sure any stay at home parent and "solopreneur" can relate to this).
If you're a health conscious lady looking for a side hustle, a community to connect to, a way to educate others and be a part of a health movement, you want in on this.
When join my team, I become your mentor. That's lots of one-on-one time with yours truly as I help you figure out how to make this work for you. With Beautycounter's vision to create a healthier world, every person counts. YOU MATTER. Whether you can spend five hours a week or fifty, whether you want to make hundreds of dollars or thousands, I will work with you so you can work with us. Together we can make a difference.
If you're at all interested in learning more about this company, I'd love to chat with you over coffee or over the phone. Send me an email and let's connect! I could talk about this stuff FOR-EV-VVER.

Host me in your home, office or studio for a Beautycounter social.
These gatherings are fun, casual and easy to throw together. I give a quick health discussion and speak for a bit on the importance of the better beauty movement. I also bring all of my products for everyone to sample, and help your guests shop for safer products to meet their individual needs. It's a fun and informative 90 minutes with people you care about, and your guests will walk away with loads of healthy living resources!
As a host, you have the opportunity to earn 50% off products, as well as free Beautycounter products.
Try the products
Chances are, these are beauty products you’re already buying, so you can begin to make lateral shifts to safer. Swap out your shampoo, face wash, lotion, etc. Notice what you're running low on, and start there. I always tell people that we vote with our dollars. This is a way you can take your hard-earned money and put into a company that’s looking to effect change.
As I learned, Beautycounter products speak for themselves. Not only are they safe, they are also high performance. You will love them. BUT if you don't, there is a 60-day money back return policy.

My Favorite Everyday Products
I've practiced oil cleansing for a few years, so rubbing oil on my face is not new to me. I understand some people think it's kind of weird or counterintuitive, but face oils and serums are where it's at and I highly recommend you try. Even if you have oily skin! If I could only buy one Beautycounter product, this would be it.
This particular oil is great for reactive skin (redness, rosacea, acne). The ylang ylang and chamomile blend is very soothing and helps to calm all of that down.
I use this underneath moisturizer, or even in place of moisturizer.
Tint Skin is my favorite foundation - it's lightweight and moisturizing and it doesn't feel like you're wearing make up AT ALL, but covers really well especially when used with the retractable brush. That particular brush has a cover and is great for travel or throwing in your makeup bag. If you're looking for less coverage, Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer is also great, plus it has an SPF of 20. The Dew Skin won Allure's Best of Beauty award.
The concealer pen is a must-have for me because it covers up under eye bags and revives tired eyes (#momlife). It's also great for covering up any redness.
There's a reason this is a best seller. I am SO HAPPY to finally have found a safe shampoo that actually feels like NICE shampoo. I've been using the natural stuff for years, and honestly never really enjoyed my hair washing experience. It always felt greasy!! True story: whenever I'd go to my mom's house, I'd always shower so I had an excuse to use her (sketchy) salon shampoo and conditioner. I admit it!! Fortunately, we now both use Beautycounter products and are satisfied: salon-quality and SAFE ingredients!!
