How do I know? I'm Erin Holt, Holistic Nutritionist.

I am a recovering dieter. I started dieting before I was even a teenager, so basically I'm an old pro. This sent me on a roller coaster of weight fluctuations and emotional turmoil through my teens and early twenties.

Restricting my food, constantly counting calories and following meal plans got me nowhere. Because I didn’t love my body. I didn’t even feel comfortable in my own skin. I blamed myself for not having enough self control.

This is me, Pro Dieter. Feeling like I didn't belong in my own body. Even while wearing Spanx.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is Einstein’s definition of insanity, right? Well, I guess I was insane. “Just this one last diet/cleanse/fast,” I would think. As though that last one would be the one to save me. But the last one was never really the last one. Until it was.

I decided to end the craziness and stop dieting. I stopped buying diet books, stopped buying magazines that promised abs in 2 weeks, stopped spending gobs of money on weight loss shakes and supplements. I started to learn about real food. And I started to eat. Real Food.

Through a yoga practice, stress management techniques, and a real food diet, I eventually understood that measuring my self worth based on what I put in my mouth was ridiculous. After 15 years of trying to crawl out of my skin, I finally felt comfortable in it.

 

This is me, free of dieting. Learning how to love myself (and feeling groovy).

I’ll be honest: sometimes major life events will stir the inner crazy. The siren’s call of quick fixes beckons me back. But I don’t answer.

Before my wedding, I just said NO to a crash wedding diet. I ate real food, practiced yoga and walked daily.

 

This is me on my wedding day.

After having my baby, I was determined NOT to jump on a crazy postpartum diet. I followed Fueled+Fit, I worked out at home, I walked and practiced yoga.

 

This is me the year I had my baby.

The point is, after quitting dieting, I've maintained a steady weight for years. I no longer struggle with food, I no longer struggle with my weight. There's never any reason to do anything drastic - I'm off the diet roller coaster for good.
